e-Book FAQ's and
Requirements
e-Books are "secure" Adobe® PDF
documents (typically, electronic copies of
TG2Books, ARTSchool
Seminars, and other materials/software sold as a package).
They rely on an "authentication server".
Your license "connects" to the server to confirm authorisation to open/read,
print, or do whatever the permissions of your license allow.
On this page:
Technical requirements
that provide a reasonable certainty for smooth installation and operation.
e-Book FAQ's.
The e-Books and related "machinery" have been tested on a
wide range of platforms. Most reasonable modern PC based configurations
work well (Apple ®, and certain other platforms are not supported at
this time). A minimum specification is a Windows®
NT based OS (e.g. Win2000, XP, etc). It is recommended to have at least 256Meg Ram (more is
better), 5-10 Megabytes
of hard disk storage for the viewers etc, and enough hard disk space for
each of the e-Book packages and related materials (this is typically
5-15 Megabytes per e-Book), a cpu rating of 700 MHz (slower cpu's will also
work in many cases), and at least 640x480 SVGA colour screen (though 1024x768 is recommended).
eBooks are primarily accessed via the FileSecure® viewer provided
automatically during your first registration. The FileSecure®
"Viewer" can be dloaded from here (https://www.file-secure.com/Install/fsLoad/Setup.exe)
. This is updated from time-to-time, please consider using the latest
version. Additinoal FileSecure information is available here (http://www.arbitrage-trading.com/TG2_eBooks_FS_Notes.htm)
.
An internet connection is required so that the license file may
authenticate your installation by communicating with the authentication
server. The internet connection may need
to be continuous, or periodic (e.g. every 5-days, or n-days, or
n-opening), depending
on your license type.

Is there a refund policy?
There should
never be a need for a refund. There is an enormous amount of
online material and extensive pre-sales support to ensure you do not buy
anything you do not need.
Please feel
free to obtain answers, descriptions, and other information to be
satisfy yourself on the product prior to purchase.
Some actions
also make the purchase irrevocable. See terms & conditions, but do
not download anything, do not install any licenses etc if you have any
doubts whatsoever.
-----------------------
What happens if you can't fulfil the terms&conditions of the sale?
If our product
does meet the terms & conditions, then there are "back-up" provisions.
For example, if the authentication server service fails, then we have
the right to create our own server. If we cannot, for some reason,
deliver the secure e-Book with license, then we may deliver a PDF
version that does not require a license. Please write to us
about other "back-up" provisions.
In general, if
something prevents the "reasonable" delivery as per the
terms&conditions, then we will always try, as first step, to offer
equivalent or greater value.
-----------------------
What are
some of the advantages of e-Books over hardcopy?
There are many
advantages to e-Books, some are:
- Zero
delivery costs (see also
Why are delivery fees so high?)
- Once loaded
on your PCs/laptop its much lighter and more convenient than dozens of
pounds of large text books.
-
Electronically searchable, indexed, and generally easier to navigate.
- Errata are
automatic: when corrections, revisions, upgrades are produced, you
simply download the entire "new" book, and replace the old book.
Now it will have all up-to-date upgrades and corrections automatically.
-----------------------
Where are the details of the e-Book contents (including Table of
Contents, Indices, Extracts)?
The "road map"
for TG2Books is HERE, which has the TG2Books
listed in the left menu. Equivalently, the list of all TG2Books
(planned or in print) is available HERE.
The links there take you directly to the titles listed.
Each title has
its own set of web pages, including Table of Contents, Index, Extracts, and
often also software related pages. Just click on the left menu
items, and review the pages in detail, including downloadable extracts
in PDF format taken directly from the TG2Books.
-----------------------
Where can I find buyer reviews?
Buyer's of
TG2Books provide reviews listed HERE.
This includes reviews of the "traditional" type, as well as tabulated
questionnaire specific reviews in spreadsheet format.
-----------------------
Can I separate e-Books from the accompanying software and related
material?
No.
TG2Books that are "bundled" with accompanying software or other
materials are considered a "package deal". For example, it is not
"a book plus some free software", rather the price is partially for the
books, and partially for software and materials.
If you require
those or other software/materials in isolation for either education or
commercial purposes, then it must be arranged with us in writing and in
advance.
-----------------------
Can I install my copy of my e-Book at home and at work, or perhaps take it
with me on a laptop during travel?
Yes.
e-Books are provided with a "roaming license". The default
arrangement permits the installation of 2 "instances" of the each
license (e.g. one at work, and one on your laptop). These are for
"non-simultaneous" use, and this must be strictly observed.
You can also
sell/give/lend your eBook to another individual. This requires
un-registering your license. Contact TG2Books for details.
-----------------------
How can I buy or obtain
e-Books?
All TG2 and
related products that are for sale may be purchased directly online at
the
ARTShop,
or as a direct purchase, please contact
sales@arbitrage-trading.com.
Not all
products and services are listed at the
ARTShop.
-----------------------
Are there discounts?
There are
several types of discounts and specials
Combined
Packages: the easiest and often best approach is to purchase
combined packages. For example, buy TG2 Quant Methods: Basic
Maths& Stats plus TG2 Quant Methods: Monte Carlo Methods together, and save USD
75.
TG2
Registered Owner (Prerequisite) Discount: All registered TG2
owner are eligible for standard "prerequisite" discounts. For
example, if you already own TG2 Quant Methods: Basic Maths& Stats and
later wish to purchase TG2 Quant Methods: Monte Carlo Methods, then you
automatically receive a USD 50 discount. This is less than the
"equivalent" combined discount.
Launch and
Promotional Specials: these are posted at the
ARTShop,
usually for a short period when a new product is introduced.
ARTSchool
Delegates: delegates attending
ARTSchool Seminars receive
complementary copies of the "relevant" e-Books as detailed in the
seminar terms & conditions.
Volume
Discounts (see
Is there volume packaging and site licensing?)
Educational
Discounts: There are two formats for educational discounts:
"School Discount" and "Student Discount". Educational institutions
receive a special version of the Volume Discount to provide and "on
campus" installed base of e-Books (e.g. for an MBA programme).
These institutions also have the benefit of providing students their own
e-Book (e.g. for home use) under their volume licensing provision.
"Student
Discounts" (separate from those available via the "School Discount") are
available to full time students at "recognised" and "eligible" (as we
decide) institutions.
Typically,
"take home" student packages do not include the software (but the
"school copies" do).
IMPORTANT:
discounts are often via "discount" or "coupon" codes used during the "check out" of the online shopping process. These codes
must be issued in advance (usually by email). They are "user
specific" and usually "purchase specific" and must not be used outside
of their intended or stated purpose.
** There are
some limitations on the maximum discount and how certain discounts may
be combined.
-----------------------
Is there volume
packaging and site licensing?
Yes.
Volume packaging and site licensing provides a number of benefits.
There is a very great discount that increases from as little as 20% to
30% or more in special cases.
In addition,
qualified institutions may also obtain print permissions with licensing
deals.
Importantly,
customised editions of books and packages may be free or at a reduced
level. For example, the books can reflect your company name and
logo, your companies "screen prints", or virtually any aesthetic and
content change that is agreeable.
-----------------------
Is it possible to have "custom" or "tailored" version of the books for
my company or my clients?
Customised
editions of books and packages are available to all. These are
arranged in advance. For example, the books can reflect your
company name and logo, your companies "screen prints", or virtually any
aesthetic and content change that is agreeable.
The fee for
this service various with the nature of the customisation and with the
size of the order. A large order will always be eligible for
considerable free customisation.
-----------------------
I made an online
purchase, what happens next?
Following an
online purchase you will receive an email from the shopping cart.
Then, you will receive an email from our "admin" processing, indicating
that we have received your order. This usually happens
within 1 to 2 business days.
The "admin"
email will provide further information and instructions.
Typically, once you are in receipt of the admin email, you will be asked
to "register" your purchase (if you are not already registered).
The registration process will provide additional terms&conditions
specific to your purchase. It is at this time that you "agree" to
these specific terms&conditions, in addition to the online
terms&conditions. Do not agree if you are unsure.
Once you have
agreed and registered, you receive additional emails. One email
will provide you with your login information with which you access your
own personalised download page on our website. Remember, do not download anything
if you are unsure.
If you have
order electronic materials, such as e-Books, then you will receive a
separate email that includes the license file for secure file viewer etc.
Then you will
be able to download your documents. On your first installation,
you will be asked to register your license and install the viewer (this
is only required once).
-----------------------
Why are delivery fees so high?
Delivery fees
are NOT set by us. They are taken from the courier pricing, and
include the entire warehousing/delivery process that is subcontracted.
The net fee charged to you is generally a bit less than what you would
pay the courier directly.
Please keep in
mind that hardcopies of the TG2 Books are very large and heavy, and some
"books" are actually multiple volumes. A typical TG2 volume is 2.5
kg (a little under 6 pounds). Example UPS calculations for several
destinations are provided HERE, and it is
also shown how you can use the UPS
calculator to check delivery fee to your destination independently.
-----------------------
Can I print or alter or copy
e-Books?
Default
setting for e-Books are "read-only". The standard terms&conditions
prohibit printing, copying, altering, or any other manipulation of the
product.
Print
permissions are available separately. Normally, print permission
are provided via the e-Delivery see HERE.
-----------------------
Can I exchange or
"swap" e-Books for hardcopy?
Yes.
There is an automatic provision that provides you with a "swaption".
Hardcopy versions of the books are made available from time-to-time
(there is not a fixed schedule). Prior to the general public
offer, registered e-Book owners have the "first right of refusal" to
swap (or to "dual", see below) their e-Books.
You are
notified by email of the availability, and you reserve your hardcopy by
making a "discounted purchase" online.
The pricing of
the swap, roughly, reflects reversal of any e-Book discounts, required delivery
costs, an admin fee and associated credit
card processing etc costs, and adjustments for "specials" etc.
-----------------------
Are there
special bundling of hardcopy with e-Books?
Yes.
Owners of e-Books have special pricing for their "dual" hardcopy, and
owners of hardcopy have a similar special pricing for their "dual"
e-Book. Roughly speaking, "dual" pricing aims to provide the "2"
copies for the price of 1 1/2 copies.
Any normal
delivery fees are also assessed.
-----------------------
How many times can I
download or install an e-Book?
Your
personalised download area will always contain all materials that are
available to you. You may download these as many times as you like
(consistent with your licensing and terms&conditions agreements).
Please keep in
mind that separate from the restrictions in the provisions of your
agreement/terms&conditions, the license files and related DRM security
will have their own explicit install/use limit.
-----------------------
What happens to my license or installation if my system crashes or there
is other legitimate problem with my installation that causes a crash or
requires reinstallation?
We anticipate
that the in the normal course of events there will be legitimate reasons
that require the reinstallation of licenses. In these cases,
please contact us, and we adjust your account for the necessary
additional licenses/instances as appropriate.
-----------------------
I have a very low specification PC, can I still buy and use the e-Books?
If you are
using a "low spec" PC or laptop, then contact us first to considering
testing your configuration prior to purchase.
----------------------
My PC has many security features (firewalls, antivirus, etc), and may be
running via a proxy server, can I still install/use e-Books?
In most cases
the licensing system will coexist with firewalls and the like. In
some special cases (e.g. where IT staff have implemented extra strong
port restriction/proxy servers, there may be a requirement for
adjustments) as described HERE. If you are not sure, contact TG2Books for details
prior to purchase.

persists, please contact
TG2Books@arbitrage-trading.com with details of the steps required to
produce the error, all error messages, and your system configuration
(pc/cpu/ram etc, OS, etc.)

When I open my e-Book I get message suggesting that I am missing a font
(e.g. MATH_1.TTF), what does this mean?
If on reading the e-Books there is a message to the effect that it
could not find a font file, then you can obtain a free copy of the required
fonts from here,
http://www1.fee.uva.nl/creed/wakker/miscella/maths.with.msword/fontsmap/linksfont.htm
, this has the entire "core set" of math fonts and can be downloaded directly
(copy to your font dir in your Windows dir and install as appropriate).
For completeness, should you be interested in a wider range of free fonts
for math (possibly unrelated to our e-Books), you may find some helpful
links here:
http://cgm.cs.mcgill.ca/~luc/math.html
In some cases, you may also wish to get
the Mathematica font package
